Winke Winke (Waving)

The model for this work is a photograph used by Frank Hurley for documenting the Endurance Expedition to Antarctica. The picture shows the crew left behind on the sunken ship Endurance, waving goodbye to the lifesaving boat of their captain, Shackleton. He is trying to fetch help with a five-man team and does not come back for another three months. But Hurley called the picture all save, all well, using it, therefore, to describe the arrival of the boat and therefore the saving of the crew on Elephant Island. The subtitles of the two identical pictures are from different sources, one describing the departure, the other the arrival.
